Twelve of these portraits are of children in orphanages in developing countries. They were done through The Memory Project, a human service organization that connects art students in the U.S. with orphaned children throughout the world. The art students do portraits of these children, then send them those portraits to enhance the children's self esteem and give them a tangible souvenir of their childhood.  The portraits also show the children that someone, however distant, cares about them. I have always done one or more of these portraits each year. I worked in the same media as my students: pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, and acrylic. The other three portraits (the first three) are of some of my friends.
